Governing bodies and headteachers in all state schools must ensure that provision is made for RE for all pupils, unless they are withdrawn by their parents. The purpose of this briefing is to outline, the importance of RE, to examine the deployment of teachers and the status of RE.
The briefing will examine the role of the SACRE in providing support for teachers of RE at a local level; the locally Agreed Syllabus of Religious Education and the evaluation of the current RE policy including how this is put into practice to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that encourages pupils knowledge and understanding of all faiths.

Governors’ legal responsibility for Collective Worship
This session is aimed at Governors with responsibilities for collective worship in primary schools. The purpose of this briefing is to examine the legal framework for collective worship and ensure that collective worship meets the legal requirements. Governors will evaluate the current school policy in the light of the new inspection guidance to ensure provision for collective worship which enhances pupils social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) development.
